Journey to Changchun city in China

A modern international airport, called Changchun Longjia Guoji Jichang in pinyin, came into use in 2004 for the city. But international flights are only to Japan and Korea by now. All others are domestic flights. So at first you should flight from your country to Beijing International Airport. This is your first step of the journey to Changchun.

And then there are two methods to go to Changchun city from Beijing: by flight or by train. If you select go by flight, it is convenient. Because you shouldn't go to Beijing Railway Station with heavy luggage, and you could just transfer a flight to Changchun. But the expense is higher than that by train, generally 600-900 RMB.

If you select to go to Changchun by train, you should get to Beijing one day earlier than by flight to Changchun. In this way you should at first go to the Beijing Railway Station by the airport bus or by taxi. And then to buy a train ticket of one of these trains: three day-time trains and two night trains.

About your departing date. You should get to Changchun one day earlier of the date you have the seminar lessons. For example, if your seminar lessons begin in the 3rd, Aug, you should get to Changchun in the 2nd. This way  you should plan your departing date. If you go from Beijing to Changchun by flight, then your whole journey could finish in one day. Otherwise if you go to Changchun by train, maybe you should depart one day earlier for the possibly taking the night train.

Anyhow, you should tell us your journey plan in advance. This way we could pick you up at the railway station or airport on time. 

Living in Changchun

General situation: Changchun City is situated at the heart of Song Liao Plains in northeastern China. The city is at the center of the three northeast provinces, plain and broad. With four clear-cut seasons and favorable temperature in the mild temperate zone, Changchun has an annual average temperature of 5.2 degrees, a rainfall of 522 - 615 mm, and a sunshine time of 2,688 hours, thus being called "Spring City in Northern China".

Changchun City is the capital of Jilin Province as well as the political, economic and cultural center of the province. During the year of 2005, Changchun has a population of 7,125,000, including 4,039,000 urban residents. There are about 38 nationalities, such as Han, Manchurian, Korean, Hui, Mongolian, Xibo and Zhuang.

It is the hottest days here in Aug, generally 20-30 grade at the noon, even higher. But because Changchun is an inland city, the early morning and night is comfortable cold. So the long sleeve frock is requested. Also it is month with raining, so bring a foldaway umbrella.

Changchun city now has become quite modern one with the rapid economical development. But in another side it keeps much of its old mores and local culture. As a north city in China, you will enjoy the guileless and fervor of the Changchun people. Here you could taste more kindness and friendship, but less commercial tinge.

Traffic, Communication and Power Supply

Everywhere you could do international distant call at the post office and public telephone bar everywhere on streets; the cost is quite inexpensive. 2.4 RMB/minute for U.S., Canada, and cheaper for Japan, Korea, German, France, Britain etc.
